The first leg of CWMF’s epic “Walk to Rwanda” will begin on June 4th 2008, with a leisurely summer stroll along the Thames, covering the six-or-thereabouts miles from Putney Bridge to St. Thomas’s Hospital, by Westminster bridge. The CWMF trustees will be joined by friends and supporters of the Charlotte Wilson Memorial Fund, for this first stage of our most ambitious fundraising effort yet.
The idea behind the “Walk to Rwanda” is a very simple one – through a series of sponsored events over the next few years, we are aiming to walk (or run, or bike, or perhaps even swim) the 4,109 miles from London to Kigali, raising money for CWMF’s education, health and peacebuilding projects in Rwanda and neighbouring Burundi. Every mile walked counts towards our total – so everyone who takes part will be helping us make a difference.
Charlotte’s mother, Margot Wilson says: “June 4th would have been Charlotte’s 35th birthday, so we thought it would be the perfect day to launch this fantastic new fundraising project. Next month’s event will also be a great opportunity for those who knew Charlotte to come together in support of the fund set up to help the causes that she believed in so passionately.”
The walk will start from the south side of Putney Bridge at 6pm on Wednesday June 4th 2008, and all friends and supporters of CWMF will be very welcome to join us. We’ll shortly be posting details of how to support the event online, but in the meantime please do contact us via richardcameronwilson AT yahoo.co.uk if you’d like to take part or find out more.
